After my starch-laden meal at RicoRico, I walked as an attempt to lose some calories. I started daydreaming about moving to Bonifacio Global City with its wide pedestrian paths and clean surroundings. Its really a good place for walking dogs. But property prices are way over my budget in this area so its dreaming for now.
My sugar tooth was craving something sweet so I went to an ice cream joint that I've been to in the past and wanted to revisit. Freezer Burn is located at the Ground Floor, Q3, Bonifacio High Street in Taguig City.
The ice cream shop is the brainchild of Chef Miko Aspiras who's also behind Scout's Honor and Le Petit Soufflé. I've tried some items at his other concepts and if I can recall it properly, my sentiment was merely OK.
To complement the playfulness of the menu, the store design is youthful and whimsical.
There's a wall filled with attractive ornamental vases in various shades and sizes.
The ice cream display. The offerings of Freezer Burn are meant to take one outside the box when it comes to flavour combinations. Inspiration probably came from Ferran Adrià or Helmut Blumenthal who are both culinary geniuses in pushing the boundaries when it comes to the visual and gustatory appeal of their creations.
During my initial visit months ago, I had the Ketchup Mayo Fries - " ketchup and mayo ice cream + salt and pepper fries ".
I chose this to challenge my taste buds.
This is definitely an acquired taste and I will avoid this in the future. Savouring ketchup in what's supposedly creamy and sweet doesn't play well with my purist tongue.
Then, I had the fries dipped in the ice cream. Its still undesirable for me unless if I was piss drunk and so hungry that I would eat anything in sight.
When I returned, I played safe and didn't want anything experimental.
I had the G'day Mate - " butter ice cream + sticky date pudding ".
I love sticky pudding and when paired with ice cream, that would be heavenly.
There's also Cotton Candy for extra sugar overload.
The Butter Ice Cream was creamy and very good.
I injected thick Caramel Sauce on the Sticky Date Pudding. The pudding had a bitter taste that may have been an ingredient like baking soda or cornstarch that was not cooked properly. Dousing it with the sauce didn't really help.
I wanted sugar and I HAD sugar. Sugar from the cotton candy, ice cream, meringue bits, caramel sauce and sticky date pudding was just too much in one go. I can now perpetually delete Freezer Burn from my list and mind.
Cost of Meal : P 295.00 during my first visit & P 225.00 during the second visit
